south of the occoquan river, in the southbound direction. back to you. >> thank you. a r other top story, nine years after 9/11, religious tensions running high. at issue, an islamic cultural center near brown zeroth and eighth florida tester's protest. wiederkehr cultural center near ground zero. h-- and islamic cultural center. >> president obama and top military brass will remember the victims tomorrow. those military leaders are calling on pastor terry jones to cancel burning the qur'an tomorrow. that has caused a lot of controversy. there's confusion over an apparent deal that went bad. yesterday the pastor said that he called off the event after reaching a deal with the imam behind the ground zero mosque.

>> i have his word that he will move ground zero mosque to a different location. >> but in new york the imam made clear that no deal has been struck. >> my major concern with moving muslim world will feel islam is under attack in america. >> i felt it was a sign from god that that was what we should do, but now we are back to square and one. >> the government feels it could endanger troops abroad as well as extremists possibly launching attacks at the event itself. in muslim countries there have been demonstrations and flag burnings. most of the muslims we spoke with are hopeful the event will not happen.

on thursday jones was asked whether the event would happen and he said he does not know. today he is expected to make a final announcement about the event. he is spreading that the situation will turn out well. muslims say that the damage has already been done. -- he is praying. >> president obama will be at the pentagon. vice-president joe biden will attend ceremonies in new york city at ground zero. first lady michelle obama will join laura bush for a ceremony in pennsylvania. >> president obama will take questions today at a news conference after a week in which rohde of several measures to jump-start the economy. >> a metroaccess bus driver is under arrest for allegedly

sexually assaulting a passenger. 59-year-old samuel pinkston was arrested at his nose in gaithersburg. courtney robinson is live in montgomery county. -- samuel kingston. the fourth metroaccess bus driver arrested this year. >> that's right. accused of sexually assaulted a customer. one driver is still suspended for allegedly raping a mentally disabled woman this summer. these incidents are not related. it is upsetting to the elderly and disabled customers. the most recent allegation ston, the pinkking woman said that he touched breast at a clinic where she was being dropped off.

we do know that he had a full background check and there were no prior arrests or victims. the driver works for a company that metropolitan contracts out to. they're holding a training session for the 1100 drivers that work for metroaccess to explain to them what is appropriate and acceptable and what is lawful. courtney robinson reporting from gaithersburg. > family members are mourning the loss of a teenager murdered by someone who wanted his bicycle. justin, age 15, was shot on central avenue in capitol heights and his bicycle stolen. he wanted to become a professional basketball player for go to the navy. police have no suspects. we are following a developing story coming out of california this morning. you can see this massive internal is raging.

a san francisco suburb. one person is dead, more than $100 is damaged or destroyed. authorities are blaming it on a massive gas explosion. >> crews are still on the scene trying to douse that fire and look for more victims. now we're on the ground with the latest developments from san bruno. >> we are near what is being called to the epicenter of this massive explosion. there is a crater 15 feet wide. the explosion was so massive that it melted the asphalt. the 24-inch pipe said to be responsible for this was put in half and on a great distance from the spot. when you see the neighborhood, it looks like there was some kind of war zone, like someone used a flame throwers. all that is left of the chimneys and cars that were left sitting in the street. those cars are charged.

-- charred. more than 50 houses destroyed and several others damaged. at least one person is dead and several people had to be taken to local hospitals to be treated for burn injuries. officials fear that number could increase as they continued to scour through neighborhoods to look for more victims. they have most of the fire contained. 50% under control. they expect to have it out sometime later today. now the investigation is underway to determine what caused this explosion in the first place. reporting from san bruno, abc 7 news. back to you. >> thank you. 58 degrees outside. >> still ahead, standing up to cancer. tonight more than 100 celebrities and all three major news networks are teaming up for great cause. >> a potential voting scandal

now he's telling abc news that he has been duped and betrayed. now the latest from arlington. >> president obama and top military brass will come to the pentagon tomorrow to remember the victims of 9/11. they have been calling on pastor terry jones of florida to cancel the event. initially there was relief yesterday when the pastor announced a deal had been struck with muslim leaders that in exchange for canceling the event, but the ground zero mosque of would be moved to another location. but the imam behind the mosque says no such deal was reached. there's concern that the controversy could put service members and the americans abroad at risk. it is not clear what jones will do. he says that he feels duty and betrayed. he says that he was lied to. the people involved in the deal say that he simply misunderstood what they were discussing and maybe even misrepresented the

deal to the media yesterday at a press conference. when asked directly last night whether the event would go fourth, jones said, "i really don't know. i will pray that the situation turns out well." many muslims say regardless of what happens, the damage has already been done. >> this controversy has prompted the state the problem to issue a travel warning. officials are urging travelers to be aware of the possibility of protests that could become violent. the nation is planning to market the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. president obama will be at the pentagon for the second year in a row. vice-president joe biden will attend ceremonies at ground zero in new york. first lady michelle obama will join laura bush at a ceremony and pennsylvania. in california there's a developing story of a massive

internal raging in a san francisco suburbs. at least one person is dead. more than 100 vases damaged or destroyed. authorities are blaming this on a massive gas main explosion. >> unbelievable. crews are still on the scene, trying to douse the fire and look for more victims. john is on the ground in san bruno, joining us with the latest. >> a massive fire roared through this residential neighborhood of san bruno, calif. through the night. if a 24-inch gas main is likely responsible for the fire, which reduced dozens of palaces to ash within an hour. >> blames 100 feet in the air. >> i heard the noise and i thought it was an earthquake. >> the blaze was preceded by a loud explosion and a big fireball and people began

rushing for their belongings to get them out of their causes. the cruise from san bruno and surrounding areas battled the fire on the ground while airplanes and helicopters dropped fire retardant. if two people were injured by the blast and fire is that followed. they have been taken to local hospitals and burn centers for treatment. electricity is out in much of this neighborhood and crews of working to determine the cause of this explosion. abc news reporting. this is the third major fire to break out in the u.s. this week. in colorado the crews are struggling to get the opinion of fire that's been burning your older several days. in detroit officials are trying to figure out how much damage was caused by a fire that swept across their area earlier this week. > status hearing today for the silver spring rapist. he is suspected in 25 rapes and has been convicted in two other

states. he will face charges in connection with nine rapes today. a d.c. public school teacher allegedly had a long-term relationship with an emotionally disturbed teenager. dna tests proved 58-year-old robert weis miller is the father of the girl. school officials including chancellor michelle rhee are alleged to have been negligent in not protecting the girl. students were hit by a car wednesday night on 18th street at florida avenue in adams morgan. julie is in grave condition. melissa is in critical condition. they are students at john hopkins d.c. campus. >> the tremendous outpouring of concern. people are wanting updates on the students and what they can do to help. wonderful people and

the imam plan in the center said there was never any deal to move it. at least one person was killed after a massive explosion and fire in a neighborhood in san francisco -- near san francisco. the blaze is 50% contained. it has destroyed dozens of houses in sandra oh. san bruno. iran is planning to release sarah shourd, one of the hikers that cross the border and is accused of being a spy. for the fourth time this year, a metroaccess driver is under arrest, a accused of attacking a passenger. the most recent case involves this man, 59-year-old samuel kingston, they say he sexually assaulted a disabled woman as he dropped her off. courtney robinson is live in

>> number one, you have an event that kids the sensitivity surrounding 9/11 going on. the ground zero mosque controversy. rallies for and against it in new york city on september 11 expected. the controversy with the possible burning of the koran. you have explicitly 9/11-related things going on. the other part is that you have events going on, candidates had been suspended their campaigns during september 11. now people are going to football events, tailgating. some people will have a moment of silence. a lot of political events going on in a lot of places. >> it seems that politicians would suspend having speeches or any political ads.
